Fake Steve Jobs has a classic post about the potential Microsoft-Yahoo merger called Monkey Boy’s three-legged race on his blog. Make sure you check this out. Here’s an excerpt:
But here’s the really dark part of all this. He knows it won’t work. He has to know this. He’s not stupid. The cultures will never fit together. And the deal is too big. It’s not manageable. And it’s completely anathema to Microsoft. It’s totally out of character for them. It goes against everything the company has ever stood for. Ballmer knows this, and he’s doing it anyway. Because this is exactly what every old-guard CEO does when all else fails. I mean it’s right there in the official playbook that you get in business school. And ultimately, smart as he is, Ballmer is an old-school kind of guy. He’s not really a tech guy. He has a mindset that was formed in Detroit, where he grew up. He’s a Big Three automaker kind of guy. And this is a Big Three move. It’s Ford buying Jaguar and Land Rover and Volvo because they can’t think of anything else to do.
BTW, Ford is currently looking to sell Jaguar and Land Rover which currently are the only two crown jewels in the group that are–though barely–making money.

Awdio brings the music playing in many of the respected clubs, venues, festivals, etc. from around the world to your browser. Since there is always some kind of clubbing going on around the world at any given point in time, there is always something cool to listen to on Awdio. Montreal’s Stereo is rocking as I write this.
This is a very cool idea. I hope they stick around..

Founder of Audioscrobbler, Richard Jones aka RJ on the Last.fm blog:
As of today, you can play full-length tracks and entire albums for free on the Last.fm website.
Something we’ve wanted for years—for people who visit Last.fm to be able to play any track for free—is now possible. With the support of the folks behind EMI, Sony BMG, Universal and Warner—and the artists they work with—plus thousands of independent artists and labels, we’ve made the biggest legal collection of music available to play online for free, the way we believe it should be.
Full-length tracks are now available in the US, UK, and Germany, and we’re hard at work broadening our coverage into other countries. During this initial public beta period, each track can be played up to 3 times for free before a notice appears telling you about our upcoming subscription service. The soon-to-be announced subscription service will give you unlimited plays and some other useful things. We’re also working on bringing full-length tracks to the desktop client and beyond.
Free full-length tracks are obviously great news for listeners, but also great for artists and labels, who get paid every time someone streams a song. Music on Last.fm is perpetually monetized. This is good because artists get paid based on how popular a song is with their fans, instead of a fixed amount.
We will be paying artists directly.

You wanna Mac Pro, but don’t got the dough to get a Mac Pro? You can build yourself one on the cheap, though not legal; or as quiet, or as good looking. There is a few tutorials out there and I am sure it works perfectly as we are all one big happy family under the Intel sun. ;)
I might give this a go if I find the time in the next month or so. I’ll keep you posted.
